I am thankful for this ministry that brings together PCA churches and presbyteries. Students get to connect with the wider body of Christ, hear solid gospel-centered teaching, strengthen relationships with others from their own church. As a youth leader, the Southland leadership team allows me to simply experience camp with my students, helping them to process what they are learning and experiencing without being distracted by the necessary logistical duties of an in-house retreat or camp. Having attended Southland Camps since 2002, the leadership has changed over the years, but the mission has remained the same, to connect students to Christ and to community. That is what Southland Student Camps does best!

Southland is an impressively organized effort of Reformed churches ministering faithfully to students across the state of Florida. I’ve been privileged to receive students in my RUF at Florida State who participated in Southland growing up, and they are eager to return throughout the year in order to serve a ministry that meant so much to them. Southland has a special place in my heart and in the hearts of my family. I have been privileged to attend as a single man leading a middle school ministry, a married man as a student ministry intern, and a married man with children as a student pastor. Two of my five children have attended Southland, and I have attended with my family twice, humbly as an invited speaker. I have been blessed to be in relationship with Southland for over two decades! Under Gospel leadership at Southland students are engaged in Gospel relationships, with Gospel teaching, and have Gospel fun! Ultimately Southland provides an endearing space to fall in love with Jesus because of His Gospel love for us.

Southland is a great place to get connected with youth and other youth workers from across the state of Florida and even the Southeast. As a young youth worker twenty years ago, Southland was a place of encouragement and community for me, my volunteers, and students. Over the years, I have deeply enjoyed the great community of Southland. I honestly believe that Southland is one of the best options for you and your youth group as a retreat or summer camp option. Not only do they organize a great event filled with fun for all, but even more importantly is their heart for the gospel. A mark of Southland that I really appreciate is their promotion of the importance of the local church, which can be seen in how they structure leaders. Each church provides her own counselors, so the bonds formed during Southland can continue to grow within the context of the local church. Another way that Southland supports the regional church is by providing an environment where both youth and youth workers can connect and encourage one another and build friendships that span the body of Christ across the state of Florida and beyond. As an RUF campus minister, I love seeing a new freshman on the campus of UNF wearing a fun Southland t-shirt. Thank you, Southland, for your faithful service all these years.
